How to Avoid Sounding Like Every Other Brand Online

Let’s face it—social media is filled with the same recycled captions, generic advice, and templated visuals. It’s no wonder some posts fall flat. If your content sounds like everyone else, you’re going to blend into the background.

Standing out doesn’t require reinventing the wheel—it just means being more like you. Think about the brands and creators you love: chances are they have a distinct voice, a relatable tone, or an opinion that sets them apart. That’s what your audience wants from you, too.

Start by ditching the buzzwords. Nobody talks like a marketing deck in real life, so your captions shouldn’t either. Write like you speak. Tell stories. Use language your ideal client would actually use. And if you have a hot take, don’t water it down—own it.

The more your content reflects your actual personality, the more it’ll resonate. You don’t need to appeal to everyone—just the right people. That’s how connection (and conversions) happen.
